Lost and Found

So my last post was on March 23, thats about ten months ago does anyone know were summer went because I don’t. We have a new president, the weathers starting to feel a little more like spring and American Idol is back on… Just kidding on that last one but its been a busy couple of months. I have traveled nearly eleven thousand miles for work over the summer. I manged a little time around the boat shows and demos to get out and take some photos, over the next couple of weeks I’ll start editing them and getting them up when I can. Not surprisingly the boat show season has started again I just got back from the Strictly Sail Show in Chicago. With eight show in all corners of the country on my plate it looks like its going to be another busy summer.

Happy Easter

Hope everyone is having a great weekend with family and friends! Does this egg remind anyone else of Pack-Man?                                                                              .egg.png

Fighting for Space

After work on Friday I scored a pile of free Spanish Cedar scraps that couldn’t be used to make bead and cove that was going to be tossed! When I got home I found my brother John in the middle of what would become a 14 hour shaping marathon to finish his first foam Board.

The Pick Up

After a hairy 8 1/2 hour drive were the weather seemed to change from rain to sun to 50 mph hour winds every twenty minutes I made it to the Grain shop Just before five.  I was greeted By Mike, John, Brad and Sarah who gave me the grand tour of the shop and showed me what goes into making each of the kits.  Thanks again!

This was a dual purpose trip, I was also picking up a display board for Chesapeake Light Craft and visiting friends.  My friend had a family emergency to deal with so I ended up staying in York.  I have to say my hat is off to the guys that surf Maine in the winter. With an air temp around 35, water not much warmer and a strong breeze I would be a pop sickle in about thirty seconds. But These guys were out there having a great time for the better part of the evening.

So It Starts!

I learned about Grain Surfboards about a year ago and have wanted to get one of their kits ever since.  So a couple of weeks ago while sitting in the I-97 parking lot I decided to order a kit.  I called Mike LaVecchia up at Grain to figure out how it all works and what was available.  The Root kit that I was after wasn’t in-stock at the time but Mike told me that if I didn’t mind waiting about a week and a half he would start milling a new kit for me the next day.  Needless to say this was perfect because I was planning on visiting some friends in Portland about the same time and York Beach wasn’t that far out of the way.
